Gamini - a legend of Sinhala Cinema
Many fans of him talk about his acting in "Nithanaya" , but for me from the days, when I was in my twenties, " Parasathu Mal" is his masterpiece. As an anti-hero, he did that character marvelously with Punya Heendeniya and Anula Karunathilake contributing their best to this film directed by Gamini, himself.
I missed a chance to act as his brother - in - law in the Sinhala film "Sarunhale" shot at my village Karaveddi , as I had shooting at Pesalai for "Vaadai Katru" in May,1977
When Yoga Balachandran, Tamil dialogues writer in "Sarunhale" wanted me to give voice for him (Nadarajah, a Tamil character in the film). He refused and spoke the Tamil dialogues himself.
I got the character "Viruththasalam" in "Vadai Katru" for which he was considered initially.
But finally in his film "Nomiyana Minnissu", I dubbed for a Catholic priest character in conversation with him. (He acts as an Army commander)
It is very sad to hear this great actor of Sinhala Cinema passed away this week in Sep'2004.
